Loyola Maroon closed out its Metro Invitational Tournament schedule with a 2-1 win over the Carmel Catholic Corsairs, running the Ramblers’ MIT record to 6-3-1 and spoiling the Corsairs’ senior night. Charlie Widmar erased a 1-0 Maroon deficit midway through the second period, carrying the puck unassisted from the defensive end and finding the upper corner of the net, blocker side, from the high slot. Less than a minute later, Matt Gavula slid a Matt Plunkett centering pass under the Corsair goaltender for the game winner. Jordy Reizen stopped 20 of 21 shots in goal for the Ramblers. + Full Story
Metro North All Star Games January 24, 2010Saturday, 16 January 2010Metro North Varsity All Stars from Maroon: Charlie Widmar, Matt Gavula. Metro North Junior Varsity All Stars from Loyola: Tylar Novy, Danny Keefe, Ryan Anderson, Thomas Kennedy, Alex Armstrong, Sean O'Reilly. The games are scheduled for Sunday, January 24th at Northbrook . The JV game starts at 4:40 PM and the Varsity game is at 6:30 PM. Admission is the same as for a regular league game, but parent passes will not be accepted (coaches, faculty and director passes will be honored). The All Star selections are based on recommendations received from the coach of each team. The coaches select in order the forwards and defensemen from their team and recommend goalies from all the teams in the league. The number of skaters selected from each team is based on the team’s record after the first 10 league games of the season as determined by the league statistician. The JV game will consist of three 14 minute stop-time periods. The Varsity games will consist of three 15 minute stop-time periods. There will be no running time and the games may end in a tie. The ice will be resurfaced between the 2nd and 3rd periods in both... + Full Story
Pa Hockey Scholastic ShowcaseWednesday, 30 December 2009Loyola Gold travelled to Pennsylvania during Christmas break to compete in the Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcase. Gold came home with a clean sweep. They departed on Saturday 12/26 at 7:00 am to have to play that evening at 9:00 pm. But the long road trip didn't stop Gold from a great win. They beat Upper Arlington 7 - 1. On Sunday Loyola faced Kittannning and won 6 - 1. On Monday Loyola played Bethel Park and won 4 - 1 which put them in the semi finals. Loyola came back that evening to play Seneca Valley and won 4 - 3 to put them in the Championship round. Gold returned on Tuesday to face Upper St. Clair and came out with a 6 - 1 win. Gold came home with the first place trophy..it was a great weekend. + Full Story
Gold vs FenwickSaturday, 26 December 2009December 19th Gold faced Fenwick and won 2-1. After the first period the score was 0 - 0. In the second period Fenwick scored to take the lead. 5 minutes later Alex Corrigan tied the the game up on a power play, with an assist from Michael Scholl. The game stayed tied through most of the third period. With two seconds left on the clock Alex did it again. Alex gave his team an early Christmas present with the game winning goal with an assist from Kevin Turro and Michael Scholl. Corey Rypka was in the net for the win. + Full Story
Maroon v New Trier WhiteSunday, 20 December 2009
12/19/09 Jack Doyle scored two first period goals to lead Loyola Maroon to a 3-2 win over New Trier White. Four minutes into the game, Doyle gave the Ramblers 1-0 lead taking a pass from Matt Plunkett from the blue line to the faceoff circle and wristing the puck over the Trevian goalie’s blocker. Doyle broke a 1-1 tie with an unassisted goal late in the first period. Patrick Harte extended the lead to 3-1 midway through the second, assisted by Bo Murray. The Trevians answered with a score of their own at the four minute mark of the second period and, despite end to end action in the third period, neither team could find the net the rest of the way. Jordy Reizen was in goal for the Ramblers and saved 19 of the 21 shots he faced. + Full Story
